Costa Rica is officially known as the Republic of Costa Rica. Since the 1980’s Costa Rica has become a very popular destination for a vacation destination in Central America. Costa Rica is possibly the ideal vacation destination for your vacation. Tourists love the pristine beaches, clear blue waters and seeing the whales and dolphins play. For the nature lovers out there, there is a vast array of exotic wildlife and tropical plants to see. 1. Adventure galore

Do you love a little bit of adventure or are you a thrill seeker? Costa Rica is the place for you! Costa Rica is home to the original zip line canopy tour. You get to travel through the canopy of the jungle like a monkey seeing what a monkey would see in the top of the canopy. Costa Rica also has amazing whitewater rafting on world class rapids, kayaking, scuba diving, skydiving and pretty much anything extreme that you can think of. Oh, don’t forget cliff diving!

2. Sunset and Sunrises: The beaches

Costa Rica is the perfect place for the adventurer, but also for the not so adventurous person. If you are the type of person that just wants to sit and relax on the beach. Then this is a great destination for you. With over 1,000 miles of coastline, you have a vast variety of beaches to choose from. Costa Rica is home to many public beaches and private beaches that are lovely. Here are some of those beaches.

  • Jaco
  • Guanacaste Province
  • Samara
  • Tamarindo
  • Nosara
  • Quepos
  • Uvita
  • Tortuguero
  • Peurto Viejo De Talamanca
  • Cahuita
  • Montezuma

3. Surf’s up dude!

Costa Rica is famous for its waves and is one of the top three destinations in the world for surfing. The water here is warm all year round and, of course, the waves are great any time of the year. If you are a surfer and don’t want to deal with the crowd, the rainy season may be the best time for you to go to Costa Rica for surfing. There are a lot of great beaches to choose from with awesome breaks. The surf is good on any side of the country and if you are a beginner, don’t worry there are plenty of surf schools to teach you.

4. Yes, I did say Sloths!

One of the slowest mammals in the whole world, the sloth, are simple so ugly that they just might be cute. You can find these creatures all over the country. Just look up on the trees as you drive around or when you are on a hike in the jungle. A few fun filled facts about sloths:

  1. Sloths are clumsy on land but are great swimmers
  2. They spend most of their time in the trees
  3. A weird one but they only poop once a week.
  4. They only sleep about 10 hours a day, the rest of the time they are active.
  5. They can make their fur green by letting algae grow on it.
  6. They can tilt their heads almost 360 degrees.

I just love these creatures! When they are little, they are super cute! If you want to pet one, stop in at one of the sanctuaries on the island.

5. The rainforests

The countryside of Costa Rica is made up of approximately 25% protected national parks and rainforests. Aside from taking an amazing zip line ride through the canopy, there is a tram that you can ride on through the treetops. The tram ride will walk you through the forest guided by an expert naturalist. You will learn an amazing amount of information about these jungles that hold 5% of the world’s biodiversity. There are other parks to take tours in also that will point out many of the animals that are native to Costa Rica. These habitats are simply amazing to see and experience and would be worth the trip.

So if you are looking for a great destination to go to in Latin America, go to Costa Rica and experience the many amazing things that will make you want to stay a while, or possibly forever.
